Women Are Losing An Insane Amount of Money Today is Equal Pay Day, which recognizes how far into the year women must work to earn as much as men did in the previous year. Not much of a cause to celebrate, is it? Especially when you consider that were over a quarter of the way through the year. The unfortunate truth is that were a long way from gender equality at work. And while were starting to take steps in the right direction, women still only make 76 cents per dollar men make. The 76 cents per dollar may not seem like  that  much, but it  adds up. And the resulting amount of money women lose over the course of their career due to the wage gap is disheartening. Also: Insane. Disgusting. Appalling. Straight up crazy. Based on todays figures, women would lose $430,480 over the course of a 40-year career. For Latinas and African American women, the losses are even higher. The National Womens Law Center calculated the totals and created an interactive map that shows how your state stacks up in regards to a lifetime wage gap.
